2011 Year End Lists

Wow... 2011 is over, huh? That was fast! Like I've been doing for a few years now, I'm going to try to recap the past year with a collection of subjective lists. (Except this time, I'm going to let people read it... which is a little strange.) I'm probably going to fail miserably. I apologize in advance.

Also, since I feel like elaborating on these choices would merely be forcing my opinions on other people, I skipped that step. You'll have to take these inclusions at face value.

[Edit: Every person reading this has probably told me how "bad" my taste in music is at some point in our lives. Please, let's not fight about this. They are merely opinions. Feel free to post your own lists in the comments to share your opinions / demonstrate your superiority...]

Top Sports Moments of 2011

Honorable Mentions

Albert Pujols did what? - Could apply to either his three home runs in Game 3 of the World Series or his signing with the Angels for 10 years and $250,000,000.

The Orioles are wearing what? - Orange jerseys and cartoon birds!!

#10 Floyd Mayweather Jr. knocks out Victor Ortiz, then threatens to kill 80 year old Larry Merchant in his post fight interview.

#09 The Miami Heat finally circled the wagons and took their "superteam" to the NBA Finals... where they promptly underperformed and lost in 6 games to the Dallas Mavericks.

#08 Some tiny school in Indiana lost the NCAA basketball title game on the final possession for the second consecutive year. If only a computer could have put two powerhouses together for the championship...

#07 Sidney Crosby returned from nearly a year away from the NHL with concussion like symptoms to score two goals and notch two assists in his debut against the New York Islanders.

#06 The Year of the Pitcher. Specifically, Justin Verlander. AL Cy Young winner, and AL MVP. ... I... I don't even have anything else to say...

#05 The Braves / Red Sox Simultaneously Collapse. Commenting on this topic will only get me in trouble. Ah, to hell with it! Bucky Fuckin' Dent and Aaron Fuckin' Boone, please meet Robert Fuckin' Andino.

#04 The NFL and NBA Lockouts. Who am I kidding... I was ecstatic when the NFL's lifted. That's the only reason this is on here.

#03 Michael Dyer's 37 Yard Run in the BCS Championship Game. Oregon thought he was down. Dyer knew he wasn't. Game over.

#02 David Freese's World Series Game 6. Last December, no one outside of St. Louis could have told you who David Freese was. Now? After his game tying 2 RBI triple (with 2 outs and 2 strikes in the bottom of the 9th) and 11th inning walk-off home run, he was the World Series MVP and damn near a household name.

#01 Megan Rapinoe to Abby Wambach. Down a goal, through all of extra time, and two minutes of stoppage time, it looked like the US Women were going to be bounced in the World Cup Quarterfinals by Brazil. Then Megan Rapinoe came streaking down the left side and put a picturesque cross directly on the far post of the Brazilian goal. More importantly, the ball was also on the leaping head of Abby Wambach. 2-2. PKs. Hope Solo. US wins.
